  • Description and Overview-
  • The Grand Canyon National Park located nearest to Flagstaff, Arizona is home to most of the massive Grand Canyon which is 277 river miles long, 18 miles wide, and a mile deep. It is an exceptional sight to see in person because pictures simply cannot do justice to its enormous proportions. Aside from the view, the Grand Canyon is home to a surprisingly large amount of wildlife considering its desert climate.

  • Transportation-
  • By car, the drive (from Atlanta) to Grand Canyon National Park is about 26 hours. By plane, the flight is just under four hours. Once a tourist arrives at the park, there are numerous options to choose from when getting around the canyon. The Trans-Canyon Shuttle offers trips between the North and South Rims of the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Railway provides train services between Williams, Arizona and Grand Canyon Village, Arizona.

  • Climate-
  • Overall, the climate of the Grand Canyon is mild to warm during the day and cold at night. In summer specifically, the most popular time of travel for tourists, temperatures in the North and South Rims are usually pleasant (50-80 degrees F) while inner canyon temperatures are extremely high; they usually exceed 100 degrees F during the day. However, the spring season is overall a better time of year to visit the canyon due to the more mild temperatures and manageable crowds. Because of its desert climate, the Grand Canyon only receives about 16 inches of rain or less per year.
